ABOUT
The "Imprint of the Past" is a silver ring whose designs are directly inspired by the engraved steles from the famous Neolithic site of Gavrinis. Located in the Gulf of Morbihan in Brittany, France, this monumental cairn, dating back to 4000 BC, is one of the most fascinating Stone Age remnants. This mound, which likely served as a collective burial site, has been preserved for centuries beneath a layer of sand, allowing for the exceptional preservation of its carvings.
The site is particularly renowned for its orthostats, large standing stones adorned with engraved motifs that form the dolmen's passage. These intriguing decorations, consisting of spirals, interlocking curves, chevrons, and abstract symbols, continue to captivate archaeologists. Among the interpretations offered, some see a representation of natural elements, such as water or the sea, while others perceive animal representations or symbolic maps of the surrounding area.
In our pursuit of highlighting this heritage, we chose to adapt these engravings into a contemporary piece of jewelry. Using the motifs from a stele featured in the "Cairn de Gavrinis" necklace, we created this ring, as well as a variant called "Portal of Time."
During the process of reducing and adapting the motifs for the size of the ring, we noticed a striking resemblance to a fingerprint. This detail inspired the name of the creation, symbolizing an intimate and personal connection with the past, like a mark left by our ancestors.
This piece of jewelry, both elegant and meaningful, is a celebration of rock art and Neolithic heritage. If you are passionate about archaeology or moved by the timeless beauty of ancient art, this ring will be more than just an accessory: a true testament to the dialogue between past and present, which you will proudly wear on your finger.
