ABOUT
Immerse yourself in the extraordinary heritage of the Maya civilization with these silver earrings, infused with the rich pre-Hispanic tradition of Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize. Inspired by a culture renowned for its advancements in mathematics and astronomy, these earrings celebrate Maya ingenuity in crafting precise and complex calendars based on meticulous observations of the cosmos.
These earrings feature two distinct glyphs used by the Maya in their sacred writing system. One glyph is from the Tzolkin calendar, the most commonly used, comprising 260 days divided into 13 months of 20 days each. The other glyph is from the Haab calendar, the Maya solar calendar of 365 days, structured into 18 months of 20 days plus 5 days considered ominous, marking a period of transition and caution.
The Maya often combined these two calendars to achieve even greater date accuracy, a system known as the calendrical wheel. This is the combination we offer with these unique earrings. Based on the date you provide, we will calculate the corresponding glyphs in both the Tzolkin and Haab calendars to create a deeply personal piece of jewelry, rooted in Maya history and spirituality.
Each earring, measuring approximately 1 x 1.3 cm, is carefully crafted to capture the beauty and complexity of Maya glyphs. More than just an accessory, these earrings pay tribute to a civilization that skillfully blended science and mysticism.
To learn more about the Tzolkin and Haab calendars and the Maya calendrical wheel, and to discover the different glyphs, follow the link below and let yourself be enchanted by the ancient wisdom embedded in these pieces of jewelry.
On our website, you will also find models in a more streamlined design, using only the Tzolkin calendar.
We offer two distinct variations. The first, titled Tzolkin, represents a single date through a Maya glyph, allowing you to commemorate a specific moment in a simple yet meaningful way. This model is ideal for those who wish to wear a unique symbol in harmony with the sacred time of the Maya.
The second option, called Tzolkin Tzolkin, adds an extra dimension by allowing you to mark two different dates. Each earring features a distinct glyph, symbolizing two significant moments, thus creating a piece of jewelry that tells a doubly personal and spiritual story.
As we currently dwell in Mexico, provide a period of 3 to 6 weeks to receive your order. Thank you for taking this information into account before ordering in our shop (please, read the complete conditions of shipping here).
