INSPIRATION
The "Small neolithic owl" necklace is a refined reinterpretation of an artifact more than 4,000 years old, discovered in Cerro de la Cabeza, Valencina de la Concepción, in the Seville region of Spain. This pendant is inspired by a figure housed at the Archaeological Museum of Seville, illustrating the art and culture of the Copper Age, a period spanning from 4500 to 2500 BCE.
The owl (or night bird) engraved on this necklace is part of a symbolic tradition found in tombs and funerary pits across the southwest of Spain and Portugal. These objects were often interpreted as divine or ritualistic representations, linked to fertility beliefs and the nocturnal goddess. However, a contemporary theory suggests that these objects, due to their simplicity, could have been creations made by children. Research indicates that these items would have been quick to produce, compared to more complex objects of the era.
This pendant evokes a distant time while questioning the meanings of these artifacts, which may have been ritual objects, children's gifts, or simply expressions of the everyday creativity of our ancestors. The "Petit hibou néolithique" invites reflection on human imagination through the ages.
