Ojo de dios, geometric huichol ring in sterling silver

"Ojo de Dios" is a ring engraved with a Huichol motif, inspired by the artistic traditions of the Mexican tribe from the states of Jalisco, Nayarit, Zacatecas, and Durango. This design, whose name translates to "the eye of God," originally represents a woven object made from threads of different colors by the Huichols, or as they prefer to call themselves, Wixárika.

The Ojo de Dios motif, also known in the Huichol language as Sikulu or Tsikuri, means "the power to see and understand things unknown." It is believed to represent the god Kauyumari, the blue deer, who can see and comprehend all the mysteries of the universe. This symbol takes the shape of a diamond composed of bands of various colors, mounted on a cross whose arms are often decorated with pom-poms. This structure might symbolize the world at the center and the four cardinal points.

According to legend, the Ojo de Dios allows the gods to see everything that happens on earth through it. Traditionally, it is made by the father of the family at the birth of a child, each colored band representing a year of protection.

In our ring, we have adopted the geometric shape of the Ojo de Dios, an aesthetic also found in pre-Hispanic supports such as ceramics, textiles, or architectural decorations known as grecas. The ring, crafted in finely chiseled silver, captures the essence of this ancestral motif, symbolizing protection, vision, and connection with the mysteries of the universe.

This ring is a tribute to Huichol art and culture. It embodies the spiritual depth and rich traditions of the Wixárika people, while offering timeless elegance. Worn on the finger, it becomes a symbol of protection and clairvoyance, a tangible link to cultural heritage and ancient wisdom.
