Liekki, Sami fire pendant in silver and bumblebee jasper

The Liekki pendant was designed to showcase a bumblebee jasper, a stone with a unique and spectacular appearance. To fully highlight its beauty, we have given it generous space at the heart of the piece, emphasizing the richness of its colors and patterns.

The cabochon adopts an elongated almond shape, with pointed ends that accentuate its dynamic form. Its cloudy base, composed of grays and traces of white, evokes a sky filled with ash, a fog pierced by glowing swirls. On this ethereal backdrop, dancing lines in shades of yellow, orange, and black seem to depict the unpredictable movement of a flame driven by the wind. These colors are typical of bumblebee jasper, a volcanic stone formed by the combination of sulfur, iron oxide, and various minerals, giving it its fiery glow and captivating patterns.

This interplay of tones and contrasts recalls a nighttime fire, casting its glow into the darkness as the wind lifts a cloud of ash floating in the air. This image of flames dancing in the shadows is at the heart of the pendant's inspiration.

To enhance the effect of a living flame, the bumblebee jasper cabochon is set on a silver plate with an irregular cut, mimicking the free and untamed movement of fire. The silver, with its subtle sheen, contrasts with the stone and gives the piece a luminous presence, as if the flames are emerging from a molten blaze.

The back of the pendant is carefully cut out with a flame motif, splitting into several undulating branches. This opening plays with light, allowing the nuances of the jasper to show through on both sides, like a fire piercing the darkness.

The name Liekki, meaning "flame" in Finnish, grounds this piece in a deeper symbolism. It refers to the traditions of the Sami people, inhabitants of the far north of Scandinavia. The Samis would light large fires on the sacred Mount Saana, a mythical place where offerings were made to Ukko, the god of thunder and lightning.

In their spirituality, fire represents the connection between the sky and the earth, an element of transformation and protection against the dark forces of the polar night. By linking this symbolism to the mysterious swirls of bumblebee jasper, the Liekki pendant becomes a vibrant talisman, infused with the power of fire and the energy of northern storms.
