ABOUT
The "Kikko Hanabishi" ring is imbued with profound meanings and ancient symbols, capturing the very essence of Japanese tradition and spirituality.
Engraved with a frieze inspired by the medieval Japanese motif of kikkô, this ring evokes the hexagonal shape of turtle scales, which in Japanese culture represent fundamental values such as wisdom, perseverance, longevity, and good fortune. Historically, these scales were used in the crafting of various objects, including samurai armor, due to their durability and lucky symbolism. The finesse of the engraving reflects ancient Japanese craftsmanship, adding a touch of sophistication to this emblematic piece.
This complex symbolism is reinforced by the juxtaposition of the motif, creating a structure reminiscent of beehive cells, a symbol of harmony and collaboration. The association with bees also evokes their hard work and vital role in pollination, underscoring the importance of diligent labor and mutual aid in traditional Japanese society.
The kikkô motif is deeply rooted in Japanese traditions, particularly in wedding ceremonies, where it is used to bless couples' unions with the turtle’s blessings, a symbol of happiness and longevity. It serves as a constant reminder of the importance of patience, perseverance, and wisdom in building a strong and fulfilling relationship.
At the heart of the hexagon lies the delicate flower of the water chestnut, also known as the water caltrop, a flower that thrives in Japanese ponds and marshes. It introduces a new traditional Japanese motif called Kikko hanabishi. This flower is often associated with the crests of samurai groups, symbolizing their uprightness and nobility of spirit. Its presence on the Kikko ring evokes the resilience and moral strength of the samurai, reminding us that true nobility lies in the ability to overcome challenges with grace, much like this plant thriving in a challenging environment.
Thus, the Kikko Hanabishi ring transcends its simple form to become a powerful symbol of love for Japan, its cultural richness, and its timeless values. Whether to celebrate your attachment to the Land of the Rising Sun or to seal a deep love, this ring embodies the very essence of elegance and meaning.
The Kikko Hanabishi ring also exists in a wider version, named Kikko. It features two lines of the Japanese motif instead of the single line in this model.
