JEWELRY
INSPIRATION
ABOUT
"Farandole Under the Orange Moon" is a pair of earrings that weaves a connection between nature, the moon, and the cycles of life, a central theme in many pagan cultures. These earrings evoke the early days of autumn, when the harvests come to an end and the leaves of trees take on warm hues of gold, red, and orange before swirling in the air and settling to the ground.
These jewels seem to draw inspiration from pagan celebrations of Samhain, a key moment in the Celtic calendar that marks the end of the harvest and the entrance into the dark season. During these celebrations, the ancients honored both death and rebirth, in harmony with natural cycles. A Celtic druidess might have worn these earrings, imbued with symbolism, to invoke her communion with nature and the elements during ancestral rites dedicated to transformation and wisdom.
The moons that adorn these earrings represent not only the lunar phases but also the fluidity of time, the imperceptible changes that, season after season, shape life and the earth. The leaves evoke the vegetation that, like the lunar cycles, follows an eternal rhythm of death and rebirth.
The choice of orange carnelian is particularly significant. In ancient times, this stone was associated with vital energy, fertility, and prosperity. For the Celts, a "red full moon" or "orange moon" was a sign heralding crucial periods for crop growth, its effects often perceived as either beneficial or disruptive depending on the seasons.
The carnelian cabochons rest delicately on a silver plate with lobed contours, a nod to the oak leaf, a sacred symbol in the Celtic world. The oak, regarded as the king of trees, served as a bridge between the world of men and that of the gods. Wearing oak leaves during ritual ceremonies was an act of spiritual connection with nature and the universe. The small leaves and crescent moons engraved on this plate add an extra touch of enchantment, reminding us that nature and the cosmos are in perpetual interaction.
