Cleopatra, Egyptian ring in silver and lapis lazuli

The "Cleopatra" ring is a unique creation designed for a passionate admirer of ancient Egypt and the deep blue of lapis lazuli, crafted as a bespoke order. This client had previously commissioned the "Queen of the Nile" necklace, a piece inspired by pharaonic legends and treasures, and this new design continues in the same tradition.

The centerpiece of the ring showcases a rectangular, finely faceted lapis lazuli cabochon. Its midnight blue hue, sprinkled with golden pyrite inclusions, evokes a star-lit night sky, a recurring motif in Egyptian art and mythology. The ancient Egyptians regarded the sky as the domain of Nut, the goddess of the heavens, often depicted as an immense, arching woman whose body was adorned with stars, shielding and embracing the earthly realm. This cabochon, with its shape and symbolism, can be seen as a celestial gateway, an invitation to ponder eternity.

To amplify this idea of passage to infinity, we incorporated oriental arches in a bracketed design on all four sides of the stone. These arcs, symbols of elegance and spiritual elevation, echo the architecture of ancient temples and imbue the design with subtle sophistication. The balance between simplicity and grandeur guided the creation, giving this ring a commanding yet refined presence.

The choice of the name "Cleopatra" for this piece was an obvious one. Lapis lazuli, a semi-precious stone of intense hues, was highly valued by the ancient Egyptians, who used it in jewelry, amulets, and even the pigments of funerary frescoes. A symbol of divine protection, power, and connection to the sacred, it adorned the treasures of pharaohs and elites alike.

Cleopatra herself, the last great queen of Egypt and a legendary beauty, was renowned for her love of sumptuous adornments. A connoisseur of precious stones, she would undoubtedly have been captivated by a ring like this, where refinement meets symbolism. This piece is a true homage to ancient Egypt and the timeless allure of its mysteries.
