JEWELRY
INSPIRATION
The Bidxuin earrings are inspired by an ancestral Mexican craft where traditional motifs are engraved into materials to tell a story. They are part of the Jicara on Silver collection, which transposes the art of engraving on jícara (gourd) into jewelry. This craftsmanship, deeply rooted in Mesoamerican cultures, is particularly present in Oaxaca, where artisans carve and paint these dried fruits to create decorative or functional objects. By adapting this heritage to metal, we offer a contemporary reinterpretation of an ancient art.
We chose to depict a deer, surrounded by plant motifs and a geometric frieze, as a tribute to the significance of this animal in Zapotec culture. In this Pre-Hispanic civilization, the deer symbolizes self-assertion, inner strength, and perseverance. It is often associated with vigilance and the ability to overcome challenges with agility and determination. In ancient Mesoamerican beliefs, the deer was also considered a spiritual messenger, linked to the cycles of nature and the movement between the earthly and sacred realms.
These earrings bear the name Bidxuin, a Zapotec word for "deer," in celebration of this emblematic animal and the rich cultural heritage surrounding it.
