Columbine, flower ring in sterling silver

Columbine is a delicately engraved ring adorned with floral motifs representing columbine flowers. These flowers, with their long, graceful stems, come in a variety of colors and never go unnoticed in a garden. The flowers, perched atop clusters of long stems, are both elegant and original in their shape, offering a palette of colors including white, light blue, pale yellow, pink, brown, maroon, and deep blue.

Its Latin name, "Aquilegia vulgaris", is derived from the distinctive shape of its spurred petals, reminiscent of an eagle's beak or claw. This unique characteristic inspires both admiration and curiosity.

In the language of flowers, the columbine symbolizes folly. This association comes from the flower’s shape, which features five nectar-filled spurs that resemble the caps worn by medieval jesters. The flower also evokes a marotte, a scepter topped with a hooded cap and bells, symbolizing folly and used by court jesters.

However, the symbolism of the columbine extends beyond this connotation. It is also often associated with love, perhaps the madness of love. The poet and writer Dante used this symbol to represent perfect love, uniting two principles to create divine harmony. Indeed, the columbine is a hermaphroditic plant, possessing both male and female organs, symbolizing the perfect union of both genders. In medieval illuminations, columbines embodied divine and perfect love.

If you are enchanted by these unique little flowers, the Columbine ring will be the ideal companion on your finger, adding a touch of delicacy and poetry to your style. This silver ring, adorned with finely engraved floral motifs, captures the essence of the columbine and its rich symbolism, allowing you to carry a piece of nature and history with you.
