INSPIRATION
ABOUT
This pendant is made of sterling silver (925) made by hand in my workshop.
This pendant was inspired by a conch (shell) incised from the classical period with a portrait of a Mayan leader. This musical instrument was particularly important to Pre-Hispanic times. This trumpet intervened in religious rituals to attract the attention of the gods, gather priests and believers, or call the rain. To be a sailor original instrument, it was related to the rain gods, Chac for the Maya or the Aztecs Tlaloc.
However, this instrument also had a warrior role-played. We finds it to celebrate a victory, even in mythology (eg when Quetzalcoatl defeated the god of death Mictlantecuhtli for the bones for the creation of the 5th Sun). He must also be used in military victory as it is found associated with the gods of war as Huitzilopochtli.
I named this sterling silver pendantQuiquiztliwhich is the name given by the Aztecs to this musical instrument
This pendant is really one of a kind. It is artisan etched. The etching process takes times but the result allows appreciating the intricate and delicate patterns. The bas relief effect is really nice. The deeper part is matte and the upper part has been sanded and polished.
Etching is an artisanal process which produces a unique design each time I use it. Two pieces with a same design will never be exactly the same by the hazards of the process. Each detail makes a unique piece.
Polished, shiny finish.
Dimensions: 8 x 2.6 cm.
