Yagasuri, Japanese arrow ring in silver

The "Yagasuri" ring celebrates the traditional Japanese motif of the same name, a timeless design rich in symbolism. Inspired by the fletching of arrows used in Japanese archery (Kyūdō), this motif evokes precision and stability. The fletching, often made from bird feathers, allowed the arrow to fly straight and reach its target with accuracy.

The arrow, by nature, embodies the immutable: once launched, it cannot turn back. It becomes a powerful symbol of determination, commitment, and the relentless progression toward a goal. This irreversibility of the arrow resonates in many Japanese traditions, where it is associated with willpower and perseverance.

The Yagasuri motif is not limited to personal determination. It also carries a protective dimension. For example, during New Year celebrations, lucky arrows called Hamaya ("demon-chasing arrows") are sold at Shinto shrines. These ritual arrows, adorned with delicate details, are meant to ward off evil spirits and protect homes. This tradition strengthens the association of the Yagasuri motif with protection and good fortune.

Over time, Yagasuri has also become prominent in major life events, such as weddings and graduation ceremonies. Woven into textiles like wedding kimonos, it symbolizes wishes for happiness and success. In this context, the arrow represents the idea of a one-way journey: for the young bride, it symbolizes her commitment to a new life, marked by a break from her family home. Similarly, students wearing Yagasuri during graduation ceremonies express their aspiration to move forward unimpeded toward their ambitions.

By incorporating this motif into a ring, the "Yagasuri" band offers a modern tribute to this rich tradition. The fletching motif, engraved around the band, is not just an ornament but a symbolic talisman, wishing the wearer determination, perseverance, and protection. This piece transcends the boundaries between past and present, conveying a universal message: to move forward with confidence toward one's goals, protected by the strength of Japanese traditions.
