ABOUT
The Totem ring is a custom order for a client who wanted a ring adorned with Polynesian ethnic motifs, with a central representation of a tiki. A Polynesian tiki (tiki in Marquesan, ti’i in Tahitian, or ki’i in Hawaiian) is a stylized human representation found in statues, tattoos, pendants, and other objects. The word tiki refers to both "man," "god," or "man-god."
Polynesians consider the tiki to be the first man, the origin of humanity, a half-human, half-god ancestor. It is a symbol of creation and procreation but is also associated with ideas of death and destruction. Tikis possess benevolent or malevolent powers due to the complex nature of the mythical figure they are associated with. Tiki sculptures are designed as representations of ancestors, believed to attract aid or invoke sanctions from the spirit world.
The central part of our ring is thus occupied by a representation of the man-god, Tiki. The rest of the band features various tribal symbols inspired by Polynesian tattoos. These motifs include traditional elements such as waves (symbolizing continuity and life), shark teeth (symbolizing protection and strength), and turtles (symbols of longevity and perseverance). Each symbol was carefully selected and positioned to reflect the richness and depth of Polynesian culture, making this ring a true homage to the art and mythology of the Pacific Islands.
This ring is adjustable on the back and is 20 mm large.
Metal: sterling silver.
