INSPIRATION
The "Quetzaly" earrings feature a motif widely found in Mexican culture. Quetzaly is a pre-Hispanic name of Aztec origin, meaning "beautiful woman."
Set on a diamond-shaped frame, the earrings are engraved with a diamond pattern whose edges are highlighted with triangles. This design, present in many cultures across Mexico and on various pre-Hispanic and contemporary objects (buildings, tombs, ceramics, clothing, rugsā¦), was brought to prominence by the Huichol tribe from northern Mexico.
The Huichol people call this pattern the "Ojo de Dios" or "Eye of God." Originally, it was a woven object made with threads of different colors on a wooden cross. The Ojo de Dios motif, also known in the Huichol language as Sikulu or Tsikuri, means "the power to see and hear unknown things." It is said to represent the god Kauyumari, the blue deer, capable of seeing and understanding all the mysteries of the universe.
This symbol takes the form of a diamond made of bands in different colors, mounted on a cross whose arms are often decorated with small pom-poms. This structure may symbolize the world at the center and the four cardinal points. According to legend, the Ojo de Dios allows the gods to see everything that happens on Earth. Traditionally, it is made by the father of the family at a child’s birth, with each colored band representing a year of protection.
The "Quetzaly" earrings pay tribute to this rich tradition and its symbols, celebrating Mexican cultural heritage.
