Ouroboros, snake earrings in silver

These earrings draw inspiration from an ancient motif, the ouroboros. This symbol depicts a serpent, or sometimes a dragon, biting its own tail. Indeed, its name comes from ancient Greek, literally meaning "tail-devouring".

The ouroboros has very ancient origins and appears simultaneously in various civilizations around the world. The oldest known drawing dates back to the 16th century BCE in Egypt. Initially, it represented the barrier separating the primordial ocean from the ordered world, before becoming the symbol of the cycle of life and eternity. Hence, it often appears under sarcophagi, symbolizing resurrection. Furthermore, since it consumes its own tail, it has also been considered a symbol of self-destruction and annihilation.

This motif then spread to different cultures where it most often evokes the cycle of life, highlighting themes of death and rebirth. For example, in Norse beliefs, it is said that the serpent Jörmungand, son of Loki, grew so large that it encircled the Earth and bit its own tail, thus keeping the oceans in place.

The Ouroboros earrings take the form of a circle formed by the serpent biting its own tail. The serpents are engraved with small motifs that have been oxidized to make them stand out, giving texture and life to their skin. These jewels combine ancient symbolism with modern craftsmanship, offering a touch of mystery and timeless elegance.
