ABOUT
The necklace "The moon crescent of Cadboll", inspired by the historical richness of the Hilton of Cadboll stone, embodies the fascinating heritage of the Picts, ancient tribes from the north and south of Scotland. Engraved in silver, this jewel draws its essence from the time when the Picts carved mysterious symbols into stone, thus marking their passage through the ages.
The Hilton of Cadboll stone, discovered on the majestic lands of the Ross Highlands, unveils a past rich in mystery and spirituality. Carved nearly 1200 years ago, it reveals two distinct facets: on one side, a secular motif, represented by our crescent moon pendant, and on the other, a Christian cross, testifying to the transition between ancient beliefs and a new era of spirituality.
In the twists and turns of history, this Pictish stone has witnessed many secrets, surrounded by mystery and legends. Archaeological excavations have revealed six buried graves at its feet, suggesting that it marked the entrance to a forgotten cemetery. Today, it rests majestically in the National Museum of Scotland, a silent guardian of ancient tales.
In the necklace "The moon crescent of Cadboll", we have captured a fraction of the history inscribed on the millennia-old stone. This unique piece reveals the upper part of the stele, where nestle the Pictish symbols of the crescent moon and the V-rod. These motifs, imbued with mystery and symbolism, are deeply rooted in the ancestral past of the Picts. The crescent, enigmatic in its meaning, is often associated with the moon, the sun, or even the transition to the afterlife. As for the V-rod, it could evoke the fragility of human existence, like a bow on the verge of breaking.
At the heart of this crescent moon, Celtic knots weave a complex web of interconnections. These motifs, laden with mysticism and symbolism, embody the very essence of Celtic art. The Celtic knot, with its intertwined lines, reminds us of the unity of all things in the universe. It symbolizes eternity, unwavering love, the fertility of nature, and humanity’s spiritual quest.
Through this jewel, we are transported to a world where the past merges with the present, where ancient symbols continue to resonate with timeless significance. The Cadboll Crescent Moon, like a talisman steeped in history and mystery, invites us to explore the depths of our cultural and spiritual heritage.
