ABOUT
The Echinoidea pendant was designed to showcase and enhance the beauty of this magnificent fossilized sea urchin, a testament to ancient marine life imbued with mystery.
Its name, Echinoidea, refers to the class of marine animals to which sea urchins belong, emphasizing its deep connection to natural history and the oceans. The fossil appears as a slightly irregular hemisphere in warm shades of brown and caramel, evoking the hues of earth and sand. On its back, the distinctive five-branch pattern immediately captures attention. This design, resembling a five-petaled flower or a five-pointed star, arises from the pentaradial arrangement of plates forming the sea urchin's external skeleton. The ambulacral plates, finely perforated with pores, reveal the vital functions of the living urchin, allowing its podia (or tube feet) to move and breathe. This detail adds a scientific and historical layer to the pendant's beauty, reflecting nature's remarkable ingenuity.
To honor this exceptional fossil, the pendant's design adopts an elegant simplicity. The sea urchin rests upon a finely crafted silver circle that follows its natural contours. This circle is deliberately hollowed out, allowing appreciation of the fossil's underside. The urchin is secured by five delicately shaped triangular prongs that echo the floral motif on its back, achieving perfect harmony between the fossil and its silver setting.
The fossilized sea urchin carries a rich and universal symbolism. It represents protection, regeneration, and a deep connection to life's cycles. Its star-like motif, reminiscent of celestial stars, evokes balance, harmony, and universal beauty. Its fossilized nature, shaped through a millennia-long transformation, symbolizes permanence and the memory of time. Revered since antiquity as a powerful talisman, the fossilized sea urchin is associated with luck, inner strength, and the soothing of negative energies.
With the Echinoidea pendant, you carry a fragment of Earth's history, elevated by refined design and profound meaning.
